Support through Community Connection
7 June 2021
Helping those less fortunate, vulnerable and disadvantaged, is of benefit and value to the greater community.

COVID-19 has been difficult for many but taught us some valuable lessons and brought back insight into the value of community and connection. We should all care for others in our neighbourhood.
People who fared the best were the people who leaned into relationships, with family, with friends, with community

What Do We Mean By Support?

The Mind For Me Foundation focuses on non-specialist, non-skilled support where we draw on low-level care and assistance from within our community. This allows any funds to be better spent on more of those specialist skills, support and equipment. Some help that can be provided are:

  • child minding
  • pet sitting
  • household chores such as cleaning, washing or ironing
  • meals or a hand cooking
  • gardening or mowing
  • shopping
  • help with travel
  • and many more things that don’t require higher skills

What Do We Mean By Value?

Value comes in different forms, for different participants and for some indirectly involved. Some of this includes:

  • knowing neighbours more and safer neighbourhoods
  • more supportive connections and relationships
  • sharing of knowledge and experience
  • relief for charities and not-for-profit organisations
  • pressure on social welfare system

Know what’s going on in the neighbourhood, knowing each other, creates a far more valuable community and that bind that increases the feeling of being a part of it. A greater respect and appreciation for each other forms and we look out for each other a little more.

We have an opportunity to learn from each other. Different cultures, different generations, different experiences. Through natural conversation that occurs each time we see someone, we learn a little and are happier and better for it.

Our society provides forms of welfare and assistance to those in need, as they need it. Much of that is provided through government funds which are limited, and adds strain to our system and taxes.  In a world where it’s expect people will live longer, in their own homes for longer, a broad set of solutions working together will be needed.

For the Mind For Me Foundation this creates opportunity.  We can open up our connections, build our relationships and take on more of this assistance in doing so.
